NEWS AND UPDATES

Introduction

The cases of recidivism of drug abuse treatment and rehabilitation are significant and varied. This indicates that various methods of treatment and rehabilitation are not completely effective. This means ways and methods need to be developed in order to achieve eradication of recidivism. Eradicating recidivism is very important because the occurrence of recidivism is a high cost to ASEAN Societies and governments.

There is a general consensus among researchers and administrators that the phenomenon of recidivism among probationers is salient world-wide. It is also agreed that there is a connection between recidivism and unemployment/poverty and crime.

Given the seriousness of recidivism, there is a great need for rethinking approaches particularly in the field of sociology, psychology together with medical, religious and legal discipline.

Objectives

  • Definition and rate of recidivism varies with different institutions. To find standards.
  • To identify reasons for recidivism.
  • To find out the suitable methods or approaches to deal with recidivism.
  • To seek cooperation between community and institutions related to socio-economic aspects of drug related crimes.
  • To disseminate information and knowledge and share best practices.
  • To discuss connection between poverty/unemployment/economic growth and recidivism.
